KazFilter™ is an anti-spam filter for the excellent Mailtraq™ mail, news and proxy server. In the words of one user:
Your program is working incredibly well - this mornings result is Passed 410 - Failed 115! So that's 115 fewer enhancing emails that our people needed to read first thing this morning. Nigel Marshall
KazFilter sits on picket duty in front of the Mailtraq™ server analysing all email as it arrives, and performing stateful inspection of all the email headers and body content. If it finds data which matches criteria set in its database the email is flagged as either spam or whitelist, then passed back to Mailtraq™ which can actively divert the email to a safe mailbox or archive, without troubling the original intended recipient.
Whilst the actions of KazFilter do not include any black magic for determining whether or not an email message is unsolicited email, it incorporates additional functionality for ensuring that the KazFilter database can be updated instantly a new spam threat emerges. The system manager can send control emails to the KazFilter system to update the database so it is not necessary to sit at the mail server console in order to maintain a healthy anti-spam measure.
KazFilter also includes - as standard - the ability to share new spam definitions with other KazFilter systems, by sending control emails to those systems. Thus if any of the linked KazFilter systems updates its database with new spam definitions every other system on the linked arrangement instantly becomes aware of the change, and can immediately start defending the Mailtraq™ mail server against spam attacks. KazMax operate an anti-spam mailing ring which licensed users are entitled to join, so your spam defences could remain vigilant against new and emerging threats without you having to do anything!
Another useful feature is KazFilters ability to automatically expire email addresses which have been published on a web site. Up to 999 email templates can be defined by the user. With a small amount of web site scripting you can easily protect your mail systems from harvesters which collect and donate email addresses from the Internet to spam databases which are then sold on.
And if that wasn't good enough, the dynamically expiring email addresses can also be automatically re-routed to "real" email accounts, completely invisibly to the outside world who will never actually be aware of who the email was delivered to. This web site incorporates these feature in the email addresses which you see published here.
In the short time that KazMax have been using KazFilter our spam levels have been reduced by something like 95% - that's an incredible reduction. And we have experienced no false positives. And whilst false positives are always a possibility once we identify one of those we can configure KazFilter so that it marks the sender (etc) as whitelist, and it will never again fail on spam identification!
Using a combination of Mailtraq™ and KazFilter you no longer have to fear publishing email addresses on your web site. And your system manager doesn't need to spend hours each day trying to fine tune the mail filters to keep spam at bay. Each time a new spam message is received which has got through the defences, inspect the content, send a control email to KazFilter to describe the new information to look out for, and the barricades are instantly put in place to defend against any further spam from the same source or with similar content.
